Bored? Not so Much

Bored during the week?..... Classes seem to be slowing down?......Well  here are a few things on campus (and some off) to occupy the free time we all get at some point or another.

Attend one of the many lectures on campus!

I just attended the Robert Gates, former Secretary of Defense, lecture and it was great. It was very informative and mildly humorous. We are here to learn anyways? Why not take advantage of all of the great workshops/lectures/seminars held on campus. I believethat our accessibility to these resources is so often taken for granted by students that they don't get all they could out of their education here at Trinity.

Break the Bubble!

Take a day out of one of your weekend and go see a movie with your friends/roommates. Get food off campus with your friends, explore the malls of San Antonio (if shopping is your kinda thing). Anything to get out of the Trinity bubble is good for students. San Antonio has various landmarks and entertainments that are worth seeing.

Rush Greek Life!

Though Greek Life may not be for everyone, it is definitely worth experiencing and going through rush. For instance, I never expected to be a frat guy..and here I am part of the Kappa fraternity. Turns out it was my best choice yet. The social establishment and opportunities from getting involved ,even basically, in Greek life are extremely beneficial.  Having a group of people there for you at all times and willing to help is a unique thing.

Keeping Things Interesting

Here at Trinity, we take for granted how nice it is to have the experience of college. Getting out and socializing and just doing whatever with friends will relieve the stress of schoolwork and any of the other numerous things that bother us. Spending time in the dorm when not out and about can be boring. I have a few random suggestions which I have done and found to be very helpful in keeping things interesting while stuck in the room.

Rearrange

Cleaning the room and rearranging furniture/beds is always an option.  If you are like me and have found yourself without enough space in your room, try moving the beds around! Get some room, add some furniture. Make it homey.

Decorate

Get some posters, add some lights, whatever. Bring something that changes the dorm room from a room to your room. Those little touches will make you feel more comfortable and give the room a much more enjoyable atmosphere.

Socialize!

If bored, walk into your suitemates room and bother them. Trust me, worst case scenario you guys will be bored together. Staying too long in the room working or just trying to relax can actually be harmful to both your mood and attitude. Call up a buddy or, like I said, hang out with your suitemates and actually befriend them. You will have a much better time living here and will have people there for you.
